Acting Chief Nicholas Caristo has over 33 years of law enforcement experience after serving 20 years with the New York City Police Department. He specialized as an investigator in the Special Victim’s Unit as well as being a 9/11 First Responder before starting his career with the Palm Beach Police Department on April 4, 2005. He served in the Patrol Unit, Detective Unit and Organized Crime Vice and Narcotics Unit. He was promoted to rank of Sergeant on October 26, 2013 as Supervisor to Organized, Crime, Vice and Narcotics Unit and Patrol Unit. On January 3, 2015, Sergeant Nicholas Caristo was promoted to the position of Lieutenant and subsequently assigned to Support Services, which oversees the Code Enforcement & Parking Unit, Business & Community Relations Unit, Records Information Unit and Communication Unit. He was then promoted to the rank of Captain on October 26, 2016 and then to Major on October 1, 2017.
Acting Chief Caristo has received 23 Department/Citizen commendations and was named Officer of the Month six times. He won Kiwanis Officer of the Quarter twice and also is a recipient of the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Commendation Medal.
Acting Chief Caristo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from State University of New York Empire State College and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He is also a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute, Command Officers Development Course.
